What is uPVC?
A uPVC conservatory may also be known as PVC, PVCu or a plastic conservatory.
The most commonly used material in conservatory manufacture is uPVC or unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (ridged plastic). This is also referred to as vinyl in America. The general reason that uPVC is used today in 100,000 of applications including uPVC conservatory manufacture is because uPVC is a thermoplastic - a substance that loses its shape when heated and then becomes ridged again as it cools. Heat shapes uPVC into countless useful forms making it easy to produce uPVC conservatory extrusions.
Where additional strength is required the uPVC is reinforced with aluminium or other metals. The reinforcement takes place, for example, in the conservatory roof bars and uPVC conservatory frames or doors.

Do I have to clean my uPVC conservatory as I am told that it's maintenance free?
Yes, you will need to clean your uPVC conservatory. When you hear that it’s maintenance free – this basically means that you will not have to paint it!! Your uPVC conservatory will require cleaning and the locks and hinges oiled from time to time, bit like your car.
I am thinking of having a conservatory built on the back of my house which is south facing - will I need some form of shading?
Yes – we would recommend that you consider Opal roof sheets which will reflect some of the sun’s rays away and help to reduce the solar gain from the sun. Opal roof sheets will help to protect you and your furniture from the sun’s rays and will help to keep your conservatory looking light even on a dull day. The other advantage is that at night the opal roof will reflect the light from your lighting back into your conservatory.

How will a conservatory fit on my bungalow or flat roof extension?
In respect of a Lean 2 style of conservatory, we will supply a low-pitch roof to overcome the height-restriction. In respect of a Victorian or Edwardian style of conservatory, a back-box gutter will be required. This means that Vantage will supply a pitched roof that will slope down at the back of the conservatory to overcome any height restriction. This will be classed as a Bespoke conservatory – please contact us for a price check.

What makes you different from other double glazing companies?

Why do you say “Pressure Salesmen Free”?
Vantage has successfully cut out those high pressure-salesmen and passed on their commission direct to our customers. No commission salesman will ever visit your home and try to sell you more than you can afford. You choose, design and cost what you want to buy and you contact us only when you are ready to place an order. A member from the Vantage team will then visit your home to make sure that everything has been costed correctly and confirm your order.

What is the Cooling Off Period?
In most circumstances, once you and a contractor have signed a contract, it becomes a legal agreement that is binding on both parties and can be enforced through court action.
However, consumers are offered protection against "high pressure" door-to-door sales tactics by giving consumers a cooling-off period during which they can change their minds and cancel a contract. However, these laws only apply to contracts signed in your home.
Where this consumer protection exists, there is a specified period of time during which you can cancel a contract without penalty – 7 days.

What is a Wishlist?
- You have in mind that you would like to splash out and buy some new windows or a conservatory. You’re thinking “I wish I could sort this out myself”.
- We have included a Wishlist to make your experience of utilising our website an enjoyable one. You will find that this is a fun thing to play around with.
- The first thing you need to do is set your budget – this is not set in stone and you can change it any time.
- Then all you have to do is add your uPVC requirements to the Wishlist. For example, two or three windows and a door.
- We have tried to make it easy for you to identify each particular window added by giving you the option of labelling them – for example “Scott’s Room”.
- Each time you add an item, you will notice that the budget is reduced and you will be able to see how much you have left of your budget to spend.
- When you are happy with what you have chosen then submit it to us and we will then contact you to arrange a convenient time for a member of the Vantage team to visit you to confirm that the details are correct.
- If, however, you are not ready to submit your wishlist to us it will automatically be saved on the browser . It will be saved even when you turn off your computer. You can then make amendments to your Wishlist when you return to your computer.
- You are under no obligation whatsoever to proceed to ordering when you submit your wishlist to us.
A member from Team Vantage will be on hand to assist you – free of charge – to confirm that the details are correct.

What if my conservatory needs planning?
No problems – we will do all the necessary paperwork on your behalf and our Architects will liaise with the Local Planning Authority. These will be invoiced separately from your order from Vantage and will not be a part of the Vantage conservatory order. Click here for more information on building regulations.

Will I need Planning Permission to build a Conservatory?
In England and Wales you will not usually require planning permission provided you do not exceed the permitted development limit for your property (which is normally between 50-70 cubic metres). If you have already had an extension then it is likely that planning permission will be required for your conservatory.
Planning permission will always be required in respect of Grade I, II & III listed buildings and conservation areas.
If you have any doubts, we will be only too pleased to advise you.
Will I Need Building Regulations to Build a Conservatory?
Generally speaking conservatories on residential properties are exempt from Building Regulations.
Below are examples in respect of some of the Exemption Criteria. These criteria must be met for a conservatory to be classified as exempt.
- The conservatory has a completely transparent or translucent roof.
- The conservatory has an internal floor area not exceeding 30 square metres.
- The conservatory is sited at ground level.
- The conservatory is permanently separated from the remainder of the property by means of a door – ie not open plan.
- The conservatory does not contain any drainage facilities (ie sink, WC or washing machine).
At the time of ordering a Vantage conservatory, we will complete the necessary paperwork on your behalf which will be forwarded to your Local Planning Authority. Your Local Planning Authority will then forward you confirmation in respect of whether your proposed conservatory is, in fact, exempt or not. Your Exemption Certificate is an IMPORTANT document which you MUST keep as you will need it if and when you move house.

Unbeatable protection for your home and family.

40% of forced entries into houses were made through downstairs’ casement windows. It can only take as little as 20 seconds to jemmy open a typical window lock, If this doesn’t work, most ordinary friction hinges can be levered open just as easily.
All our windows are Saracen Secure.
At the turn of a handle a centre deadlock secures the window as well as shoot bolts which locate into Cylon Composite keeps, secured to the window frame. The bolts themselves are made from high strength brass alloy, making the window virtually impossible to force open.

All of this makes the hinge 4 times more resistant to attack than conventional hinges.
Residential Doors.
Insurance approved locks are fitted, as standard, to all our doors. Our locks feature twin tapered hooks, rollers and robust central dead bolt. The rollers smoothly guide the hook into position enabling the inward facing hooks with 28mm projection to secure the door into the frame.

Are you Fensa registered?
No, the Directors made the conscious decision that, because a large proportion of our business will be supplying and fitting conservatories, which may require planning permission, to go down the route of utilising Local Authorities in respect of Building Regulations – Part ‘L’. Every window and door installation will be inspected by your Local Authority Building Control who will issue a completion certificate compliant with Government standards. A small fee will be invoiced separately via the Local Authority. Please contact us and we will be delighted to advise you in respect of how this procedure works and the fees, etc.
