KEEP TRADE LOCAL PETITION 7th October 2008
A cause close to my heart has been highlighted today in the LINCOLNSHIRE FREE PRESS.

Kevin Mothers, Wash Branch Chairman of THE FEDERATION OF SMALL BUSINESSES is encouraging people in SOUTH HOLLAND to sign the Keep Trade Local petition. He wants a million signatures nationwide for its Keep Trade Local petition urging the Government to secure the future of small shops.

The petition will be handed to the Government in March 2009. Anyone who wants to sign it can visit petitions.pm.gov.uk/keeptradelocal.

Ironic that VANTAGE WINDOWS & CONSERVATORIES has been promoting that "local is best" within the article section of our website "LOCAL COMPANY COMPARED TO A NATIONAL COMPANY" and to new clients and I am delighted to hear that the Wash Branch of the FSB is lobbying on behalf of small businesses and I can only wish him every success with the petition.
DITCH THE "FOR SALE" BOARD 29th September 2008
For many, the reason for moving home is due to lack of space. Why not ditch the “For Sale Board” and re-think the reasons why you would like to move home. Weigh up not only the cost of moving in monetary terms but also the cost to you and your family by way of the stress involved. Is it really worth it if, at the end of the day, you are only looking to move for additional living space? With the inclusion of a beautiful new VANTAGE conservatory, not only will you be adding value to your home but you will have found the solution to your original space problem. It will not cost you as much as you think. Check out our website where you will find online prices for a comprehensive range of high quality conservatories by Duraflex.
DON'T MOVE - IMPROVE! 29th September 2008
Why not stay put and add value to the home that you have known and loved for all these years? Just consider for a moment the cost of moving – estate agents’ fees, solicitors’ fees, the cost of a Home Information Pack and, of course, the removal fees. In many cases, these will add up to almost the cost of a beautiful new VANTAGE conservatory. Visit the VANTAGE testimonial section and check out the Palmers' P Shape Rosewood on White Conservatory Case Study - photographs of each build stage from start to finish. As you will see, they already had a beautiful home but isn't the conservatory just the icing on the cake?
A FAMILY DAY AT BICKER STEAM THRESHING WILL NOT HAPPEN FOR VANTAGE THIS YEAR!!! 5th September 2008
The weather has finally defeated us. We visited the site yesterday and, because the weather has been so dire recently, the fields are absolutely sodden and the farmer has had to "pull the plug". The event has been moved to a dryer location and I would hope that there will be signage for directions.

Because of the unfortunate weather attributable events, I'm afraid that Vantage Windows & Conservatories have decided not to exhibit at the Bicker Steam this year - we're soooo disappointed because we were really looking forward to it - but the weather has took its toll.

Weather permitting we will be there next year!!

Special display of single cylinder machines
Barn engines
Classic cars

Model boating lake

There will also be refreshments and a licensed bar.

At 2pm on the Sunday a church service will take place in front of a fairground organ with the address by the Dean of Lincoln

There’s a lot to do but we do hope that you will find the time to visit our stand.

RED DEVILS PARACHUTE DISPLAY TEAM DROPPED IN! 28th July 2008
THE RED DEVILS PARACHUTE DISPLAY TEAM excited the crowds with their colourful display when they dropped into the Main Ring at the HECKINGTON SHOW on Saturday. With temperatures reaching 28º, the 10 mile road race must have been tough going for the runners. The camels were, of course, home from home and thrived in the heat when competing in the CAMEL RACING EVENT unlike their riders who got a bit hot under the collar.

One of the main attractions on Sunday was, of course, the SHOW JUMPING EVENT and there was also an opportunity to get up close and personal to prize winning livestock and the farmers who rear and take care of these fabulous creatures.

With over 20,000 visitors to entertain, the HECKINGTON SHOW COMMITTEE should be congratulated for arranging yet another successful and well organised Show. There were attractions for the whole family to enjoy – loads to do and some tasty treats to eat and drink– the DUTCH MINI-PANCAKES were really very nice!

VANTAGE WINDOWS & CONSERVATORIES is looking forward to exhibiting again next year and we would like to thank our existing clients and new clients for visiting our Stand.

LINCOLNSHIRE FREE PRESS editorial - Charity skydive a birthday wish 4th June 2008
The guys at the Lincolnshire Free Press have also written another brilliant piece in respect of Scott and Cheri's charity skydive

This what they wrote - it appeared on Tuesday, June 3rd

Charity skydive a birthday wish

A SPALDING brother and sister will enjoy a birthday with a difference when they take part in a charity skydive.
Scott Thompson has always wanted to experience the thrill of jumping from a plane and on June 15 at Sibson Airfield, near Peterborough, his wish will come true.
His sister Cheri, who has just left the sixth form at Spalding High School, is also taking the plunge.
Scott’s 21st birthday is on June 12 and Cheri is 18 on June 18.
But the pair decided to forgo a party to support Make-a-Wish Foundation by falling 10,000 feet at 120mph while strapped to a qualified instructor.
Scott said: “I have been wanting to do this for years and the opportunity came up for us to do it and raise some money for charity at the same time.
We needed to raise £400 each to take part but we have already got £1,400. I am not nervous at the moment but nearer the time I probably will be.”
Make A Wish Foundation grants wishes to children and young people aged three to 17 living with life-threatening illnesses.
Scott is a director of Vantage Windows and Conservatories based at The Delph, Spalding and the company is supporting him with a lump sum and a special offer.
For any window bought through June the company will donate £5 to the charity and will also give £10 for doors, £20 for soffits and fascias and £50 for conservatories it sells.
For more details call Vantage, which has show conservatories at Springfields, on 01775 670111
Birthday blow-out - brother and sister walking on air 4th June 2008
Lynn Harrison from the Spalding Target has written up a very nice piece in respect of Scott and Cheri's very brave birthday wish. The article appeared on Wednesday, 21st May 2008.

This is what Lynn had to say:

Birthday blow-out

Brother and sister are walking on air ….. at 10,000 feet

IT should have been a big birthday bash – a joint party – with lots of candles to blow out on those iced celebration cakes.

But Spalding brother and sister Scott and Cheri Thompson look at things a little differently.

Their birthday blow-out will see them descending 10,000ft in tandem parachute jumps at a Peterborough airfield.

Scott will be 21 on June 12 and Cheri will be 19 on June 18.

Mum, Karen French, had been dreaming of a joint party to celebrate their big days. But then her very grown-up kids dropped a party-pooping bolt from the blue.

Karen said: “I thought we could have a joint party but, no, they both want to do a sky-dive!”

The intrepid pair will make their tandem jumps – each strapped to experienced instructors – on June 15.

Though surprised at first, Karen is bursting with pride because Scott and Cheri are doing the jump to raise cash for the Wish Upon A Star Foundation, which makes dreams come true for children fighting life-threatening illnesses.

So far they have been promised about £1,400 but would like to give the charity even more cash than that.

Anyone wanting to offer sponsorship can contact Scott’s business – Vantage Windows & Conservatories – on (01775) 670111.

Scott is one of the directors of the window company, based in The Delph, as well as a director of a web design company.

He’s looking forward to the parachute jump, but admits there will be a few nerves just before he leaps from the plane.
“It’s something I have wanted to do for years,” said Scott.

Cheri knows there will be butterflies too just before she jumps but said, “I am looking forward to it.”

She’s had a lot of sponsorship from her friends at Spalding High School – they were so generous they had stumped up £800 within a week.

Demonstrations of spinning, basket weaving, painting and upholstery take place as well as sheep shearing. There are cattle, sheep and poultry stalls with competitions in each of these categories.

BRAVE OR WHAT?? - TANDEM SKYDIVE - SUNDAY, 15th JUNE 2008 16th May 2008

CAPTION - Scott working really hard!!!

Scott - one of the Directors of Vantage Windows & Conservatories - and his equally brave sister, Cherie, will be taking to the skies in June - not to fly off to warmer climes but with the intention of hurling themselves out of a plane!!! It's Scott's 21st and Cherie's 18th - decided they didn't want a party - tandem skydive seemed the obvious alternative. WOW - how brave is that!!!

It goes without saying that Vantage Windows will be sponsoring the Skydive and all proceeds will be given to the "Make A Wish" Charity - granting magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.

If anyone would like to make a pledge to the "Make A Wish" Charity, please contact me either by email from this site or on 01775 670111. It is a Charity well worth support - please visit their website - www.make-a-wish.org.uk

COMMITTED TO GOING GREEN 17th April 2008
The more that I get involved in the world of plastic, the more fascinating it becomes. Even though I live and breath the amazing world of uPVC, I was a little bit unsure in respect of its green credentials. I hope you've had a chance to read my Articles in respect of the fantastical world that is plastic and you will see for yourself that it's a truly amazing product and not at all the bad boy on block when it comes to green credentials.

As a committed re-cycler, I am delighted to be part of the sustainable world of uPVC and because of our commitment to green issues, we have chosen our conservatory suppliers with care to ensure that they demonstrate a commitment to energy efficiency, waste reduction, re-use and offer sustainable manufacture.

: Their state of the art factory has been designed specifically to re-cycle rainwater than cleans the glass
: All glass off-cuts are re-cycled
: All pvc off-cuts are re-cycled
: All packaging is re-cycled
: They offer, as standard, SGG Planitherm Total which is a high performance thermally insulating glass

The very high credentials in respect of the energy efficiency of your replacement windows are an important feature to consider when calculating the value of an order placed with Vantage Windows & Conservatories.

The Green Formula to adopt at all times is

PRICE + QUALITY + ENERGY EFFICIENCY = VALUE
17th April 2008
THERE'S A LOT MORE TO REPLACING WINDOWS & DOORS THAN THE PRICE! 19th March 2008
There is a lot more to replacing windows and doors than just the price – by choosing Vantage – your local uPVC specialists - you will receive technical advice, design service and confirmation that your order will fulfil the requirements of LOCAL AUTHORITY BUILDING REGULATIONS in respect of:

Approved Document B – Fire Safety;
Approved Document F – Ventilation;
Approved Document L (Conservation of Fuel & Power)
Approved Document N (Glazing Safety in Relation to Impact, Opening & Cleaning).

ADVICE IS FREELY GIVEN to all VANTAGE clients or, alternatively, please visit our ARTICLES section here on our website where you should find all the information you should need. If not, then please contact us.
THE VANTAGE WISHLIST 19th March 2008
The VANTAGE WISHLIST has been created to give you, as a visitor to the site, the tools to price up your window, door and conservatory requirements. This is supposed to be a fun thing to do and, in no way, by submitting a WISHLIST do we class this as an actual order!!! There’s a lot more to ordering uPVC requirements than the price!

We do appreciate that’s its possibly a big ask to even suggest that you can price up your own uPVC requirements but, at least, you will have a very good idea in respect of the investment you will have to make to replace your windows and doors or purchase a conservatory before inviting us to your home.

Your requirements may differ from the information we have been able to provide you. Then no worries, this is where our many years of experience are made available to you.

So, have fun with the WISHLIST – again, comments are always welcome.
uPVC PRICES - VANTAGE 19th March 2008
As you are all aware, the financial markets in America are having a destabilising influence on the UK economy. The cost of living would appear to be going up – almost on a daily basis - fuel, utility, and food bills are all rising well above inflation and this is impacting on our industry.

VANTAGE has led the way in respect of being the first uPVC specialist company to have the courage to publish our prices. Because of the problems associated with the financial markets it’s proved to be very difficult for us to keep our sales literature up-to-date with correct prices.

Since trading, Vantage has only had a very small price increase but, unfortunately, only yesterday we were warned that Duraflex are feeling the squeeze and their prices to us will have to rise in the not too distant future.

Prices on the VANTAGE website are always correct but if you are unsure of a price, then please contact me at the office and I will be only too pleased to advise you.

What I would suggest is that if you are thinking of purchasing uPVC products from VANTAGE then NOW is the time to place your order to buy at today’s prices rather than tomorrow’s.
THE VANTAGE WEBSITE MAKEOVER 19th March 2008
Friday, 14th March was the day the VANTAGE website makeover was uploaded.

Because the team at Vantage are totally committed to keeping up-to-date with the uPVC industry’s trends in respect of the products we offer our clients, the time was right to update the website to include these 21st Century additions to the VANTAGE product range.

You will now find information in respect of:

: Integral Blind Units
: Composite Doors
: Celsius Glass Roofs
: SGG Planitherm high performance, low-E glass
: Chrome handles

We’ve also made changes to the VANTAGE ARTICLES section – you will find that it now uploads much quicker.

Changes have also been made to the VANTAGE WISHLIST. The Wishlist has been created as a fun thing for visitors to the site to enjoy. Hopefully, we have now got this message across.

Hope you like the new site – your comments are always welcome.

FRIENDS COMING HOME FOR WEB DESIGN LAUNCH 4th December 2007
Tuesday Talk, Lincolnshire Free Press, Tuesday, December 4th 2007

PRESS RELEASE

FRIENDS COMING HOME FOR WEB DESIGN LAUNCH

Mates since they met at St John’s Primary School, Spalding, Matt Richardson and Scott Thompson became successful dot com entrepreneurs when still in their teens.

Their website www.musicplayer.fm won plaudits for innovation on blogs worldwide because it enabled music lovers to listen to their own store of tunes online anywhere.

Now at 21 and 20 respectively, the pair are building on this international reputation to launch their own website design and maintenance service Vantage Web Studios.

They have set up websites for customers across the Atlantic. Now they are hoping local people will want to use their skills.

Matt said: “Scott and I have been friends right the way through school. He’s the ICT expert and I was much more into music at Robert Manning College, Bourne. When we left I asked him to help with an idea that took off. It was a music/social network called FameGen.com and we got 1,000 bands on it.

“My uncle and aunt Rod and Christine Grocock saw the potential and helped us with the business side and kept us focused. After that first success Scott used some really exciting new advances in technology for our next idea, Music-player, which we did together just to show off really, not to make money – but we got a lot of work through it from all over the world.”

“A lot of people read about us on the blogs and asked us to design their websites.”

Vantage Web Studios is a separate business working in tandem with the Grococks’ own new company Vantage Windows & Conservatories.

Scott said: “It’s a good arrangement as Rod and Christine are in their 50’s and not into ICT so we take care of that side and they take care of the business side.”

WOW what a six months it's been since the launch of VANTAGE 18th October 2007
It's now been six months since the VANTAGE launch and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of our customers for their business.

Our radical new approach to selling uPVC windows, doors and conservatories has been received very favourably by our clients - they love it!. Rodney says: "The "Smart Priced" approach is going down really well. Because we've took the uniquely different approach from our competitors and published our prices it's really easy to work out the price for each particular project - not only for our clients but me included! As the "bartering process" is sidetracked then there is so much more time to spend on the very important job of designing up each project."

VANTAGE - SMART PRICED & PRESSURE SALESMAN FREE!
SAVE MONEY BY REPLACING YOUR WINDOWS & DOORS 17th September 2007
SPALDING, LINCOLNSHIRE based VANTAGE - FREE ADVICE given in respect of improving the energy efficiency of your property by replacing your WINDOWS and DOORS to uPVC.

Installing double glazing can cut heat loss through draughty wooden WINDOWS by half. If you can't afford to replace all the WINDOWS, why not choose the rooms that cost you the most to heat?

Double glazing works by trapping air between two panes of glass creating an insulating barrier that reduces heat loss, noise and condensation.

Double glazing cuts heat lost through windows by half. You can save from £80 to £100 per year on your heating bills. On an environmental issue - double glazing can also save a household about three quarters of a tonne of CO2 a year.
VANTAGE VIEWPOINT - HOME INFORMATION PACKS (HIPS) 11th September 2007
VANTAGE VIEWPOINT – HOME INFORMATION PACKS (HIPS)

From now on, properties sold with three or more bedrooms will need a Home Information Pack and an Energy Performance Certificate. With one in four property transactions breaking down before contracts are exchanged, often due to information coming to light after a formal offer has been made, Home Information Packs are designed to reduce the stress of both buying and selling by containing all essential information about the property you are considering buying upfront.

Home Information Packs (HIPS) are required for the sale of three, four bedroom and larger properties. Smaller properties will be phased in as soon as sufficient energy assessors are fully qualified.

What’s included in a Home Information Pack?

The Home Information Pack (HIP) will include the Home Information Pack Index; Sales Statement, Standard Searches (Local Authority Enquiries, Drainage and Water Searches); Evidence of Title and also an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) that will rate the energy efficiency of the property. Additional information for Leasehold and Freehold sales, where applicable will also be included. It will also contain recommendations to improve the energy efficiency of the home and how to reduce energy bills.

The Home Information (HIP) and the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) will give Buyers energy ratings for homes rated from A to G on a similar basis to ratings for fridges helping to lower fuel bills and reduce carbon emissions. The certificates are commissioned by the Seller (or their Estate Agent) from an accredited Energy Assessor. The Energy Assessor will visit the property to collect the relevant data and will produce a certificate based on the findings. This data will include the date, construction and location of the house and relevant fittings – for example heating systems, insulation or double glazing.

What’s in it for Sellers – the Home Information Pack – produced at the time of the property going on the market - should reduce the likelihood of any unforeseen revelations during the selling process that could delay the sale. From the outset, buyers will be able to make more informed decisions in respect of the property that’s for sale.

What’s in it for Buyers - the Home Information Pack provides essential information in respect of properties they are considering buying.

How Much Does it Cost?

For Sellers: Many major estate agent chains are offering Home Information Packs (HIPs) as part of their normal fee structure. Others are charging in the region of £300 to £350 plus VAT on an upfront or deferred basis.

For Buyers: Free of charge

WHERE DOES VANTAGE STEP IN TO HELP?

BNI Open Day & Business Fayre - SPRINGFIELDS EXHIBITION CENTRE, SPALDING, LINCOLNSHIRE 3rd September 2007
Copy of Press Release - LINCOLNSHIRE FREE PRESS - Tuesday, 28th August 2007

My name is Rodney Grocock and I am a local business man based in SPALDING, LINCOLNSHIRE Up until very recently I had never heard of the initials BNI and I had no idea what they stood for and what BNI was all about until I was invited by a member of the Spalding Chapter of BNI to attend a Breakfast Meeting.

I attended two meetings as a visitor and I very quickly formed the opinion that this could be extremely beneficial for my business and I decided to join BNI as a member.

I have now had six meetings as a member and in this time VANTAGE has generated an additional £8,000 worth of business. This £8,000 worth of business would have never come my way if I had not decided to join BNI. These are the types of questions I asked when I was a visitor and I hope the questions and answers are beneficial to you and, hopefully, convince you that BNI could be what your company needs in the future.

Question:

What do the initials ‘BNI’ stand for?

Answer:

BNI stands for Business Network International.

Question:

What does BNI do?

Answer:

BNI is a business and professional networking organisation. It’s like having dozens of sales people working for you and your Company.

Question:

Why do business people join BNI?

Answer:

BNI is an ideal format to promote your individual business within a networking format. They join to increase the amount of referrals to their own business from non-competing business people within the Chapter. Only one trade or profession can join a BNI Chapter. BNI meet every Wednesday morning at 6.45am and the meeting ends at 8.30am prompt – early start but the meeting will not encroach on the day-to-day running of your business. As well as enjoying a very nice breakfast, each individual business within the Chapter is given a platform from which to promote their own particular field. Equipped with a selection of business cards from each member and a comprehensive knowledge of what each business has to offer all members are then geared up to promote each member’s business. It’s like having dozens of sales people working for you.

Question:

What’s in it for my business and why should I join?

Answer:

BNI is an extremely cost-effective way of promoting your business. Quality leads obtained from BNI referrals can readily be converted to that all important sale. To have dozens of BNI members acting as your sales force supplying you with quality referrals is a massive incentive for anyone to join. This year alone, since January 2007, the Spalding Branch of BNI has passed over 1,200 referrals to the Spalding Chapter of BNI.

Question:

What does it cost?

Answer:

You only pay an initial £100 registration fee and an annual subscription of £400 plus VAT. Over the year, you will achieve more sales and make considerably more than your registration and annual subscription fee – so you really can’t lose!

The Spalding Chapter of BNI has decided to hold an OPEN DAY & BUSINESS FAYRE in the MARQUEE HALL, SPRINGFIELDS, EXHIBITION CENTRE, SPALDING, LINCOLNSHIRE on the 9th September 2007 from 10am to 5pm..

The Million Dollar Question!!! 23rd July 2007
Question

If we decide to invite a double glazing company's saleman round to our house to price up for something why do they always start at one price and the longer they stay in the house the cheaper it becomes?

Answer

The Million Dollar Question - the answer is because they will be using commissioned salesmen. With Vantage, there are no seasonal specials - BOGOF deals - sign up tonight and we will offer you a discounted price scenario. We, at Vantage, are up-front in respect of our prices - the sizes, styles and prices for Vantage windows, doors and conservatories are available to all visitors to our website and on our sales literature. No bartering necessary - just genuine prices published - these prices include VAT, survey fee and fitting.

FREE assistance in respect of your quotations and an on-site consultation available on request.
Why can't I just get a price? 20th July 2007
Question

Why is it that when I go on-line to check out a double glazing company's website or contact the company's Head Office direct I can never get a price?

Answer

This is because over 90% of the double glazing industry is commission based - VANTAGE WINDOWS & CONSERVATORIES has successfully cut out those high pressured commissioned salesmen and passed on their commission to our clients - where it belongs.
Rodney's Quarterly Blog!! 17th July 2007
Thought you would all like to know how things are going since the Vantage launch just three months ago. It’s going very well. One problem we have found though is that it's been very difficult trying to convince the good people within Vantage territory that we are a totally unique double glazing company and not just another run-of-the-mill BOGOF special offer company that offers very little to customers in the way of customer service and quality products at an affordable price. Some feedback that we have received from our clients is that when they looked at our website and sales literature they could not believe the prices. Yes folks, the prices are genuine and include the VAT, fitting, survey fee – there are no hidden extras.

Another Rodney blog will be coming your way in three months’ time to keep you up-to-date in respect of how things are going and if we are doing things right. I do believe that we will be the front-runner in the double glazing industry for years to come.

Cheers

RODNEY

The Crowland Show 6th July 2007
The Crowland Show was an absolute wash out!! Disappointing for us and must have been very disappointing for the organisers who, obviously, spent a great of time and effort to organise the Event.

We did, however, meet some very nice people who braved the elements. Wellingtons and umbrellas were most definitely the order of the day.

Speak to you soon

Kind regards
